a busy week ahead

June is well and truly underway and the weddings are a huge focus in the shop from wednesdays onwards. This week we have a wedding at Castle House...a beautiful venue in the heart of Hereford. Great food and location (I can vouch for this as I was lucky enough to dine there twice this week!!) A lovely way to spend 2 evenings. The bride will be having Pacific blue roses with lissianthus and freesia, her tables dressed with roses inside goldfish bowls, very simple yet very chic for the modern bride. Then off to Eastnor for a white peony and rose themed wedding, using mirror cube vases and beautiful summer foliages. The third wedding this week will be adorned with red grand prix roses. Three very different looks for three lovely ladies choosing to get married in our beautiful county. We have 2 new florists now to help with weddings, Mandy and Tracey. They have started well, Mandy helping with a huge Eastnor wedding 2 weeks ago and Tracey looking forward to getting stuck in this weekend.Great to have extra help as well as Dorothy, our longest serving florist here at the hibiscus room. We had no weddings at the weekend, it was our Flower Design Day at Broadfield Court, the ladies had a great time and went away with some lovely arrangements for their Fathers Day celebrations. Still a few places for August if anyone keen....new dates for Nov and Dec too. Iain will update these online soon. Have a great week and I will keep you posted with any exciting flower news!

buds are bursting out

Cherry blossom, pussy willow and twisted willow are all about in the shop..huge vases full of them. The window is wedding inspired this week, with rose & marshmallow arrangements in mirrored cube vases and huge white phalenopsis orchids taking centre stage with white ostrich feathers. The wedding fair at Castle House was a lovely day, the sun shone, brides and their Mum's took tea on the lawn and the hotel was a-buzz with wedding chatter and excited giggles. We gave loads of cd-roms away (new version)  to help and guide the brides, with some wanting quotes on the day. Taken delivery of 6 bay trees to be used at a wedding next week. We will decorate these with ribbons to make a very pretty 'room divider' in a large function room at a local hotel. We are using Chocolate cosmos, quite a difficult flower to work with and source, a really dark brown, with the scent of....you guessed it..chocolate, quite apt for an Easter wedding. Have a lovely Easter!! Deb

Spring weddings

Phew...we managed another Mothers Day Sucessfully (No 6) and Happy Birthday to us today, 6 Years of fun with flowers! Spring has finally sprung and the wedding season has started. Sunday sees us at the Castle House Wedding Fair (11-3), so we are planning our displays, we feel spring flowers and lush huge roses will look great in a lovely venue such as the Castle House. Brides have been popping in the shop for chats about their bridal flowers. Edwina came in today with pictures of her beautiful dress (which she bought in her lunch hour from work, on her own) and ideas for her table arrangements. Simple, yet sophisticated is the order of the day, with a white and green theme using fat roses, hydrangea, white double peony, guelder rose and white freesias. Gorgeous!! We are now going to source some appropriate containers, silver ideally but maybe white ceramic. We shall be doing some flowers at the church, the lytch gate and 2 large arrangements, her sister (a florist in London) will be preparing the pew ends and bridal party flowers. Jobs for this week include updating our wedding cd rom with recent weddings and preparing a few quotes for brides who came in last week. One bride was rather worried about her groom who had been taken to Las Vegas for a week for his stag celebrations. Have been reading a gorgeous book this week by Sally Page, she travels around England visiting flower shops and taking beautiful photos of their shops & wedding work etc. Really a lovely read after a day of making hundreds of mothers day bouquets and feeling a little worn out. Thats all for now. Deb.

A winter wonderland

We are preparing for our saturday wedding here at the hibiscus room. the bride and groom want simplicity with an all white & green theme with a touch of red for the church. The pedestal arrangements in the church will include gorgeous white singapore orchids, huge headed white avalanche roses, ruby red hypericum berries and lots of lush foliage, including ruscus and ferns. Also preparing pew end decs to be tied on with natural raffia and soft garlanding for the ornate carved wooden screen. In the marquee there will be a beautiful arrangement of orchids and roses with cascading foliages, in the marquee tunnel leading from the house the bird bath (in situ, in the garden!) will be decorated with roses and orchids too. Also picking up 8 christmas trees from our local spruce grower, which will be decorated with fairy lights. We installed our huge flower balls today, hanging from the flower ropes in the marquee (silk flowers but look amazing in the roof space) which we hire to our bridal clients. The bridal bouquet will be made fri night in a natural trailing hand tied with the orchids, roses and ferns. Bridesmaids will be carrying tied sheaves of orchids, while the flower girls will have cute pomanders of daisy chrysanthemum. The gents will wear orchid buttonholes..and then we will be finished...phew! What a great winter wonderland wedding it will be!
